This week we are concentrating on narrowing down our topic and creating an essential question. It is important to pay close attention to the video below so that you will know how to complete this lesson. You may even want to take notes while watching the video.
Monday (3/30/20) I will be sharing the REP unit outline that we will use this week and in the coming weeks. It is important to ONLY do this week's lesson (week 2) on the outline. I will be sharing this with you as a google doc. It can be found on your home device or computer just like we find it at school. Go to google, sign in with your google school id and it should be in google docs. If for some reason you cannot get to it you may print it out by downloading the link below. If printed out, you will have to email a picture to me at [email protected] each week when your lesson is complete. No need to do this if you have found it on google docs, since I shared it with you I will already be able to see your work each week.
Some of you already have a narrow topic. If you feel that your idea is already narrowed down, you only need to record the name of your topic again on part one of the REP Unit Outline I shared with you.
For those of you who need to narrow down your topic, think about smaller subtopics within your topic. Here are some examples: Space: one of the planets, asteroids, the sun, satellites, moons Natural Disasters: tsunamis, earthquakes, wildfires, volcanoes Dinosaurs: a specific dinosaur, comparing two dinosaurs, what killed the dinosaurs Dogs: dog training, specific breeds, therapy dogs
Record these on your REP Unit Outline and decide on a final narrowed down topic. I will approve it on your REP Unit Outline.
Coming Up With An Essential Question
Now brainstorm a list of things you want to know about your topic like the "K" section of a KWL chart. Then I want you to sort those questions like they did in the video. Which ones are open and which ones are closed? Then try to develop an essential question. Remember that it will probably start with WHY. Record your essential question on your REP Unit Outline for me to check.
Do you have any questions? If so, send me a flip grid video and ask! I will check them every night and respond to you! Feel free to listen to the other videos, they may ask your question or help you understand something better!
